The Regional Institute, established in 1950, was created as a public service to the Sicilian viticulture, responsible for the protection, development and promotion of Sicilian wine production. Since 2007 it has been recognized as Research Institution of the Sicilian Region. The body has its headquarters in Palermo and branch offices in Alcamo, Marsala, Milazzo and Noto.
The Institute has always considered and valued the peculiarity "cultural" of wine, which is not just a consumer product, but is a cultural strongly ingrained with the territory, with the culture, history and traditions, a product, therefore, rich in symbolic and cultural meanings. In this perspective, the Institute has always pursued a policy of cultural cooperation with other institutions aimed at a joint promotion of the wine, the territory and the Sicilian culture.
Recently, the olive oil has been integrated into the activities of the Institute. In fact, wines and olive oil are the two pillars of the Mediterranean known around the world for the health benefits and recently elevated to World Heritage (UNESCO 2010).
Fermenti Digitali stays for “digital ferments” and is owned by two italian wine bloggers you likely know: Elisabetta Tosi (blog: www.vinopigro.it) and Giampiero Nadali (blog: www.aristide.biz). We are. We will travel with you during the West Sicily Wine Tour, trying to have care of any detail of this shared experience.
This year we are joined by our friends and partners of wine consulting company Proposta, Fabio Tavazzani, general manager, and Fabio Piccoli, wine journalist.
Together they are contributing to design the program tour and give us some precious insights on the region.
